Flying and gliding. Joining the Air Cadets opens up lots of opportunities, including the chance to fly! It’s our aim to get you airborne as often as possible, as a passenger in a light aircraft, a glider or even on-board RAF aircraft such as our Typhoon fast-jet or a Chinook helicopter.

The Air League is launching a new format gliding scholarship this year. We are offering a 3-day residential course aimed at those who have some or no previous gliding experience. As well as up to 2 hours of gliding each day, we will also provide you with an introduction to how an airfield works as well as groundschool tuition.

Those Air Cadets with an aptitude for flying can apply to join the Air cadet Pilot Scheme or for a number of externally sponsored Flying Scholarships. You will need to be 16 or over to start the course and have (or predicted to get) GCSE’s at grade C or above in English and Maths. It is also preferred that you have passed a Gliding Scholarship.
